Another day another dull looking shark movie. After a slew of shark-related tales over the past years we’re about to be hit with the latest of a ‘based on true events’ man-eater story. The new trailer for Aussie creature feature ‘The Reef’, written and directed by Andrew Traucki, has landed and looks as cheap and uninteresting as the last pair of socks I bought from Primark. Think ‘Open Water’ meets…well something similar. You can check out the trailer below as well as the admittedly creepy one-sheet (which seems to contain a truly over-sized fin compared to the actual shark used in the movie).
“For three British backpackers it seemed like a dream come true. A Week cruising the world’s most beautiful coral reef on their own yacht. But when their boat capsizes leaving them stranded on an overturned hull the dream turns into a nightmare. What should they do? Stay with a damaged hull that could sink at any moment or try to swim for land! Finally deciding to swim the three friends take to the water. As they close in on land a fin surfaces and with it the realization that they are being stalked by a deadly fifteen foot white pointer shark. Will any of them make the swim or will the sea take what it wants? The Reef walks the line between horror and psychological thriller.”
Apparently only real sharks were used in ‘The Reef’. To add realism? Or probably because they’re cheaper to film. Damian Walshe-Howling, Zoe Naylor, Gyton Grantley, Adrienne Pickering, and Kieran Darcy-Smith star. But don’t expect many of them to last the duration of the movie.
An official release date is yet to be announced and if you’re remotely interested we’ll let you know when we do.
