Ironically there’s been a lot of ups and downs for Alfonso Cuarón’s new sci-fi thriller ‘Gravity’. The director of ‘Children of Men’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ has been having all sorts of issues when it comes to the leading lady. Natalie Portman had appeared to be a lock for the lead role last month, however, for reasons unknown she has departed and Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock (below) has stepped into her space boots. She’ll be joining Robert Downey Jr. Angelina Jolie was originally cast but dropped out because she wanted the role enlarged. Sandra Bullock, Naomi Watts, Marion Cotillard, Abbie Cornish, Carey Mulligan, Sienna Miller, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, Rebecca Hall and Olivia Wilde had all been approached or indeed tested for the role!
“The lone survivor of a space mission to repair the Hubble telescope desperately tries to return to Earth and reunite with her daughter.”
‘Gravity’ is in pre-production and is eyeing a January 2011 shoot date here in the UK.
