In spite of releasing a teaser poster (below) all the way back last August, to state that progress on the remake of 80’s classic horror flick ‘The Gate’ (which starred a young Stephen Dorff) is a little slow is an understatement. Alex Winter (‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure’, ‘Freaked’) has been talking about the proposed 3D project he intends to direct, but he doesn’t think he’ll get to commence shooting on it till the end of this year. He is expectant that the redo will arrive in theatres 2012. Check out Bill S. Preston Esq had to say below.
“We’re in pre-production,” he tells Icon vs. Icon. “It’s a pretty complicated effects job so I’m not gonna be shooting for a while. I’m not gonna be shooting ’til the middle or late part of this year. Dealing with 3D test and creature design and all that kind of stuff right now which takes awhile.”
Here’s the plot of the original…
“When best friends Miles and Terry discover a mysterious crystalline rock in Miles’s back yard, they quickly dig up the lawn in search of more. Instead, they unearth the Gate—the opening to an underground chamber containing terrifying evil. The teenagers soon realize the horror they have unleashed, as one dire event follows another. With supernatural fiends invading suburbia, it’s up to the kids to find the secret that will lock the Gate forever…if it’s not too late.”
