VISIONS OF TWILIGHT
Ghosts. Things that go bump in the night. A strange…presence felt when you’re sure you’re alone. All have been the subjects of countless documentaries, fake and otherwise, that attempt to show you the ‘other side’, as it were. There are some people out there, like photographer Sir Simon Marsden, that can’t keep away from this other side no matter how hard they try, and now there is a film that may help explain why.
‘Twilight Hour: Visions of Ireland’s Haunted Past’, is a new 80-minute feature from first-time director Jason Figgis, in which he takes the task of following Marsden from one haunted Irish site to another as Marsden prepares new photographs for his upcoming book ‘Twilight Hour – Celtic Visions From the Past’. Along the way we are told the true story of some of Ireland’s most frightful locales, including castles, ruins, and mysterious stones that have been around longer than anyone knows.
The film was shown at the recent European Film Festival in Chicago, where some great reviews came forth comparing it to ‘The Blair Witch Project’, just more creepy. Nothing could be bad about that…
A deal is in the works to release the film here in the states, though through whom yet is not clear. It will come out on DVD sometime this October, with possible festival releases included for good measure. As soon as we can procure a copy for ourselves, we’ll give you the real scoop on this project, and damnit I have to admit I’m fascinated by it. The official site for the movie is still in the works, but you can get more info on Sir Simon Marsden (make sure you check out his pictures…great stuff) at his official site.
