SURREAL SERIAL KILLER DOUBLE
Columbia TriStar Home Video has announced an August 5 street date for a pair of movies that take surrealist approaches to the serial-killer genre. Chris Fishers NIGHTSTALKER (see article in Fango #223, currently on sale) digs into the twisted mind of the murderer who terrorized Los Angeles in 1985, mixing hallucinatory horror scenes with the efforts of a determined rookie cop (Roselyn Sanchez) to track him down. The film wowed em at Sundance and looks to be another superior entry in the surprisingly resilient true-killer cinema trend.
An even more unusual project is DOUBLE VISION, a Hong Kong/Taiwanese production from writer/director Kuo-fu Chen. It stars David (THE GREEN MILE) Morse as an American FBI agent called in by the Taiwanese government to assist a local detective (Tony Leung) in apprehending the culprit behind a series of vicious slayings. Their investigation uncovers supernatural secrets, and a trailer that played at Subway Cinemas recent Asian Films Are Go! festival promised striking and creepy visuals. Both movies will be available on VHS and DVD but, sadly, no special features are listed for either disc at this point.
