Sony Pictures and FilmDistrict have teamed up with Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures to help push the new Fede Alvarez helmed ‘Evil Dead’ remake into theatres around the World. The production is expected to kick off next year which Alvarez will helm from a script he co-penned with Rodo Sayagues. ‘Jennifer’s Body’ and ‘Juno’ scribe Diablo Cody was bought on board at a later stage to do a rewrite. As much as it’s almost sacrilege to even consider remaking this classic low-budget horror I’m fairly open to the idea. As long as it has it’s own uniqueness, it’s own style and some form of originality that doesn’t disrespect Sam Raimi’s original then have a stab at it. At least we should take some solace in the fact that producers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and the original’s leading man Bruce Campbell are all involved in the project.
“In this retelling, five friends hole up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead. A demonic force is unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival.”
