Elijah Wood (‘Sin City’, ‘Happy Feet 2’) has been snapped on the set of horror remake ‘Maniac’ being…well a maniac! Wood stars in the Franck Khalfoun (‘P2’) helmed redo of William Lustig’s slasher flick from 1980 and plays antique mannequin salesman and deranged murderer Frank Zito. In the new on-set pics you can see Elijah giving some poor young lady (played by Genevieve Alexandra) a good old fashioned stabbing with his buck knife. Khalfoun has previously stated that the movie would be shot largely from Zito’s point of view and of course a horror remake wouldn’t be official if it didn’t have Alexandre Aja attached. Aja, responsible for helming remakes ‘The Hills Have Eyes’, ‘Mirrors’ and ‘Piranha 3D’, will produce and also co-wrote the new script along with Grégory Levasseur. French actress Nora Arnezeder (‘Safe House’), Hank Azaria (‘Run Fatboy Run’) and Sal Landi (‘Poe’) all co-star. Check out the new new stills and plot info below.
“Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt.
Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
A 21st century Jack the Ripper set in present-day LA, MANIAC is a re-boot of the cult film considered by many to be the most suspenseful slasher movie ever made – an intimate, visually daring, psychologically complex and profoundly horrific trip into the downward spiralling nightmare of a killer and his victims.”
