Franck Khalfoun’s (‘P2’) new ‘Maniac’ reboot will hopefully see Elijah Wood (‘Happy Feet 2’) return to his maniacal best much like he attempted as Kevin the cannibal in Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Sin City’. Wood plays stab-happy psychopath Frank in the remake based on William Lustig’s 1980’s slasher flick. And now the delectable America Olivo (‘Bitch Slap’, ‘No One Lives’) has signed up to play Frank’s abusive dead mother, who will apear to Wood’s character in the form of hallucinations. Gorgeous actress Olivo (below) appeared on the cover of Playboy on the June 2009 issue. The remake comes from a script penned by Grégory Levasseur and Alexandre Aja (‘Mirrors’ and ‘Piranha 3D’). Nora Arnezeder (‘Safe House’), Hank Azaria (‘Run Fatboy Run’) and Sal Landi all co-star. Check out the plot synopsis for the reboot below.
“Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.”
‘Maniac’ is currently shooting in LA.
