Director Atom Egoyan has managed to score the delightful Reese Witherspoon (‘American Psycho’) to star in his new helmed take on the story of the West Memphis Three. The tale is based on the true life events whereby three teenagers were accused of murdering three children back in 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas as part of a satanic ritual. They faced 18 years in prison and were finally released back in August. The fictionalised account will be based upon Mara Leveritt’s 2003 book ‘Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three’ and has been penned for the screen by Scott Derickson and Paul Boardman (‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’). Witherspoon (below) will play the role of Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the victims. Production is expected to kick off in the Summer or 2012.
“Three children were savagely murdered in 1993. Weeks later, police announced the arrest of three teens accused of committing the murders as part of a satanic cult ritual.”
