Steven Soderbergh’s (‘Contagion’) next thriller project comes in the form of ‘Side Effects’. The story, penned by Scott Z. Burns, focuses on the character Emily Hawkins a “sexy but unsettled” girl who whilst anxious about her husband’s impending prison release dopes herself up on prescription drugs. ‘Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively was originally set for the role but has in fact been dropped and has been replaced by ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ star Rooney Mara (below). Mara has become quite the bankable actress of late due to her performance as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s “Dragon” remake. She’ll join Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jude Law and Channing Tatum. ‘Side Effects’ shouldn’t be confused with Ti West’s (‘The Innkeepers’) new sci-fi thriller ‘The Side Effect’ starring Liv Tyler – but we’re sure this’ll get renamed at some point so there’s no no confusion.
“A sexy but unsettled young woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs to deal with anxiety and depression surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison.”
Shooting will kick off this April.
