‘Beetlejuice’, ‘Beetlejuice’, ‘Beetlejuice’…Three magical words that tend to unleash actor Michael Keaton into a frenzy of over-reacting hilarity. Shock Till You Drop managed to have words with ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ scribe Seth Grahame-Smith about his new proposed ‘Beetlejuice 2’ concept and it looks like Keaton is going to get his 20 year plus wish to once again portray the ghost with the most. According to Seth “It’s a priority for Warner Bros. It’s a priority for Tim [Burton].” Which we have to say is amazing news if it pans out. Seth Grahame-Smith is currently penning an animated project for Burton (‘Dark Shadows’) to sink his teeth in to but a few projects later it looks like a full script for a sequel will be ready and after a meeting he had with Keaton all things look bloody gorgeous in the realm of ‘Beetlejuice 2’. The original comedy horror from 1988 gained quite the cult following amongst those who remember it fondly, like myself, and who will forever tie the song Day-o to the bizarelly imaginative story of Betelguese the bio-exorcist.
“We talked for a couple of hours and talked about big picture stuff.” says Smith. It’s a priority for Warner Bros. It’s a priority for Tim. Right now, I am writing an animated movie for Tim based on an idea of mine. Then I adapt Unholy Night [based on the upcoming book]. The third I am hoping is Beetlejuice in terms of writing schedule.”
