Novelist Bret Easton Ellis, author of ‘American Psycho’ has been exciting his Twitter followers with news of a potential sequel to his 1991 book. Ellis has been tweeting his thoughts on a follow-up in which he was throwing around certain ideas at to what Patrick Bateman (portrayed by Christian Bale in the 2000 feature adaption) would be doing with himself now. He pictures Pat as a hedge-fund manager living in LA and has already got some interesting scenarios in his head which includes having a “very long dissertation about Coldplay’s oeuvre” and then in a later scene having lead singer Chris Martin and Patrick Bateman eating waffles and talking about how cool St Vincent is and then Patrick slits his throat! Check out some more of Ellis’ interesting thoughts on more Bateman action below.
“Sitting at my desk finishing a script and suddenly I’m making notes on where Patrick Bateman’s now”, says Ellis. “Maybe I’ll call my publishers on Monday – But have to figure out what the structure is – Definitely murders at prep school…If this American Psycho sequel pans out I’d get in touch with my agent first but will have to spend the weekend seeing if it works.”
“Patrick’s first killing would not have been at Harvard. It would have been before … it would have been his father’s mistress,” suggested Easton Ellis. The novel’s antihero would “post pics of murdered girls on Facebook and either no one would notice or post ‘Fuck yeah’!”
