Today is the day finally that ‘The Evil Dead’ redo begins truly getting redone. After years of speculation, rumours and hearsay the production is coming to life almost a year before its planned theatrical release. Fede Alvarez kicks off shooting today in New Zealand where 2010’s CG adaption of ‘Yogi Bear’ was shot. Hopefully however Fede’s project will be slightly scarier than talking bears getting into unfunny situations. Jane Levy -below (‘Suburgatory’), Shiloh Fernandez (‘Red Riding Hood’), Jessica Lucas (‘Cloverfield’), Lou Taylor Pucci (‘Carriers’) and Elizabeth Blackmore all star in the remake based on Sam Raimi’s 80’s horror cult classic. Alvarez will shoot from a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues and was ultimately tidied up by Diablo Cody (‘Jennifer’s Body’).
“Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”
‘The Evil Dead’ opens on 12 April 2013.
