KING TREATS AT 28 DAYS LATER
One of horrors biggest names treated fans to one of the years scariest films Friday night, as reported by a Fango source:
28 DAYS LATERs stronger-than-expected weekend box-office showing [$9.7 million at only 1260 theaters] was highlighted by sold-out theaters in some cities on Friday night. Among them was Manhattans 1st & 62nd Street sevenplex: Patrons arriving 10 minutes before the 7:45 show was due to start were stopped in their tracks by a posted sold out sign at the theater entrance.
But also at the theater entrance, standing almost unnoticed at first, was Stephen King. When one couple rushed up to the theater and audibly groaned at the sold out sign, King called out to them, Which movie did you want to see? As the pair were telling him, they realized who they were talking toand the author then generously handed them two tickets to the sold-out show. As the start time drew closer, more potential viewers arrived and, after making sure they were there for 28 DAYS LATER and not another movie, King kept handing out free tickets. Turns out he had bought out the whole 7:45 show. King kept distributing tickets to patrons until right before the trailers started, then went into the theater and took his seat to watch the movie with a group of friends.
After the movie was over, King and co. left during the end credits. Outside afterward, one young woman was talking on her cell phone, trying to convince a friend that she wasnt lying, that Stephen King had in fact just treated her to a moviereally!
