Things in the ‘RoboCop’ remake camp are strained to say the least. During a recent interview with Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles (‘City of God’) website Cinemacom Rapadura have revealed some interesting, albeit translated, quotes from new ‘RoboCop’ director José Padilha. “He will begin filming RoboCop.” says Meirelles. “He is saying that it is the worst experience. For every 10 ideas he has, 9 are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight.” Now if this is true and tapped on to the previous news that ‘House’ star Hugh Laurie has left the project and that the general review of the current script isn’t exactly mind-blowing things will certainly need to turn a corner to hopefully hit its August 2013 release. Samuel L. Jackson (‘The Avengers’), Gary Oldman (‘The Dark Knight Rises’), Jackie Earle Haley (‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’), Abbie Cornish (‘Sucker Punch’), Michael Kenneth Williams (‘Boardwalk Empire’) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste are all on board…for now.
“In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.”
