We all knew it was coming so don’t look surprised. Found footage follow-up ‘Paranormal Activity 5’ is officially now slated for a 2013 release, and will open in US theatres from 25 October 2013. The announcement comes courtesy of Paramount whom just recently announced the planned release of ‘Paranormal Activity 4’ on DVD and Blu-ray. The PA series, originally created by Oren Peli (‘Chernobyl Diaries’), is picking up what ‘Saw’ left behind by attempting to release an installment each year around Halloween, but just how long that can continue for is yet to be seen especially following the disappointment from the last release. The big difference between the two franchises however is that ‘Saw’ at least held some line of consistency throughout its seven installments and more or less could have been left ‘as is’ without the need to keep sequelising. ‘Paranormal Activity’ however purposely seems to reveal very little if anything about the ongoing saga until the last frame when the unanswered questions continue to be….well, unanswered.
‘Paranormal Activity 4’ and part 3 were helmed by ‘Catfish’ duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman but no word yet as to whether they’ll be returning for a third time to direct the newly announced sequel.
