After pulling the plug on short lived supernatural series ‘666 Park Avenue’ it seems ABC are pinning their hopes for the Summer of 2013 on a new and extremely familiar sounding concept. 13 episodes have been ordered for ‘Weird Desk’, a series revolving around a secret organisation that takes all those ‘kooky’ cases that are a little too out there for the CIA and NSA. This of course involves supernatural, paranormal and extra-terrestrial cases. So, a tad similar to ‘The X-Files’ methinks especially as the two leads are played by an “obstinate, socially inept and brilliant man” and his female partner. Hmmm a Mulder and Scully for the new generation? Are we ready, do we need them? ABC certainly seem to think so. Tom Mazza and Maggie Murphy will serve as executive producers. Carl Binder (‘Stargate’) and David Titcher will pen the series.
“Based on the alleged real-life mysteries from this world and beyond, it centers on the workings of a clandestine organization rumored to be named ‘Weird Desk’. Working above the levels of top secret and above the office of the President, the unit is the destination for mysterious intelligence rerouted from the CIA and NSA. Tasked with investigating and solving occurrences of the paranormal, supernatural and sometimes extra-terrestrial, ‘Weird Desk’ is led by Morgan, an obstinate, socially inept and brilliant man who would now be dead if it weren’t for his special forces trained partner, Rosetta.”
