WHAT A MOMMA'S BOY!
Poor kid. He was having such a nice swim as well, but hey its the idiots fault for not having industrial strength arm bands wasn't it. Yes poor little Jason Voorhees drowned in the Camp Crystal Lake in the Summer of '57. But jeez man, his mother took it pretty bad didn't she. I mean killing a mass of campers several years later. Couldn't she just mourn in peace. Well no, not really, else we wouldn't have the king of the slashers Mr Jason Voorhees coming back for no less than 11 pretty entertaining sequels would we now.
Jason isn't quite human, and he isn't quite a monster either. God knows what this thing is anymore. He's been burnt, shot, drowned, stabbed, kicked, punched, and buried...but you can't keep a good psycho down. How many times can you possibly be raised from the dead? Sean Cunninghams' 1980 hit Friday the 13th paved the way for an explosion of slasher movies in the 80s which had been fuelled mostly by the creation of such popular slasher movies as Halloween. But would anybody have envisaged that this series would continue nearly 30 years on and spawn 10 sequels and a remake, including the release of Jason X (which oddly follows Jason Goes to Hell: The FINAL Friday, doesn't seem very final to me) and the all out crossover bout which was Freddy vs Jason.

The franchise film-makers continued to churn out these movies through the 80's. But it seems that Jason has been 're-born' yet again in the form of the 2009 'Friday the 13th' remake, which will surely spawn more sequels to come. I must admit I do own all the releases of the Friday the 13th series, maybe out of morbid curiousity, or just because Jason movies are cult classics.
The amazing thing about Jason is the fact that he has carried an assault of descructive weaponry in his time and for nigh on 30 years he has donned that now iconic hockey-mask. Yet the guy has probably never played a game of hockey in his entire life. Never once glided that puck across the ice, which seems a little ironic. And the face of Jason seems to have changed in every movie making it more and more difficult to make any conclusions to what he does actually look like behind the mask. The guy has killed over a hundred people in total over the years which should make his mother (responsible for 9 deaths) a very proud lady indeed.

The most interesting thought for years was the fact that Jason may meet the one and only Freddy Krueger one day in a new Freddy vs Jason picture (cleverly hinted in an in-joke of Freddys glove snatching Jasons hockey mask at the end on 'Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday'). And of course they did a few back back. It was certainly an interesting concept but fell a little flat. Hopefully with this new glossier touched revigoration the franchise should live on and on.
Jason is arguably the most famous movie psycho of all-time. Frequently referenced, and startlingly original in his killings. This man.. thing ..demon ..WHATEVER, will surely continue forever. And from experience we can clearly see this guy will just not REST IN PEACE!
