Visionary director Terry Gilliam recently chatted with the boys over at Screen Daily and the touchy subject at hand was that of the new SyFy TV project based on his 1995 sci-fi classic ’12 Monkeys’. The director is in no way involved with the adaptation which is being produced by Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Productions who were involved with the original feature, but Gilliam himself has stated he knew nothing about the project and has stated “That’s just ridiculous” as well as claiming “It’s a very dumb idea.” And he may just be right. Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett are penning the pilot and production is set to commence in November.
Gilliam told ScreenDaily:
“I know nothing about that. That’s just ridiculous. It doesn’t have anything to do with me and no-one has contacted me.” He added “It’s a very dumb idea. That’s what I think. If it was going to be any good it would have to be written by David and Janet Peoples, who wrote the film, otherwise it would just be another version of Time Bandits.”
