SHIMIZU TALKS JU-ON 3
Speaking exclusively to Fango, Takashi Shimizudirector of the acclaimed JU-ON films and the forthcoming American remake THE GRUDGEadmits that a Hollywood version of his Eastern smash does not spell the end for his career in Asia. It has always been my intention to finish the JU-ON series in Japan, he reveals. So I am writing the third one just nowand it is to be made there. I see JU-ON as being three moviesa trilogy.
Shimizu was in Los Angeles for a recent showing of the original JU-ON at the American Cinematheque, where he admitted delight at the audience reception his movie (which Lions Gate is released in selected markets this summer) has received in the United States. The director also notes that THE GRUDGE, which stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, Clea DuVall and William Mapother and opens October 22 from Columbia, will not differ greatly from its Japanese cousin. Basically, it is still the same story, he says. I dont want to say too much about itaudiences will soon be able to see it for themselvesbut it will have a slightly different ending and thats about it. It is hard to explain in words what the difference will be. You will have to wait and see.’
