Aussie Eric Bana Fit To Fill Abe’s Boots in ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’?

Exciting Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov’s (‘Wanted’, ‘Night Watch’) new horror project ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’, penned by ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ author Seth Grahame-Smith, has been bouncing names like that of Brit actor Tom Hardy (‘Bronson’, ‘Inception’) for a lead in the flick around for a while. But up to now nothing that has come to fruition or been considered ‘genuine’. Step forward Aussie actor Eric Bana (‘Chopper’, ‘Star Trek’). It seems Bana (below) could now be possibly filling Abe’s presidential boots. It’s interesting news but I still don’t feel it’s a good enough ‘fit’. The project will be co-produced by wacky director Tim Burton.

“When Abraham Lincoln was nine years old, his mother died from an ailment called the “milk sickness.” Only later did he learn that his mother’s deadly affliction was actually the work of a local vampire, seeking to collect a debt owed by Lincoln’s father. When Abe learned the truth, he vowed revenge and kept one passion hidden throughout his life: the brutal elimination of all vampires. His valiant, bloody fight against the undead was all but lost to history, until Grahame-Smith stumbled upon the secret journal of Abraham Lincoln.

Using the journal as his guide, Seth reconstructs Lincoln’s life story and uncovers the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation. You don’t know Abe. Honest.”

It’s a heck of a long way off but ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ will hit theatres on 22 June 2012. The shoot will kick off in Louisiana on 24 January next year.
