Rumour had it that the delectible Kate Beckinsale and director/husband Len Wiseman could return to the ‘Underworld’ franchise and complete the Selene trilogy. However, whilst promoting her latest film ‘Nothing But the Truth’, Beckinsale indicated to Coming Soon that she may not be returning to her Selene character after all.
“I think they’re still going, they probably will. I’m not sure I will,” she said. “I feel like I’ve played that character enough times that I don’t think I’d be excited to play the same character again. It’s a weird experience. I’ve never done that before, you’re playing the same character in two movies, and after two, I feel like I’m kind of done with that.”
News of this has come to light as the prequel, ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’, begins prepping its early January 2009 release.
Both Kate and Len turned down a chance to be part of the prequel due to heavy schedules. Wiseman, at the time, was supposedly prepping ‘Gears of War’ and a remake of ‘Escape From New York’. Beckinsale was also busy on her other projects ‘Whiteout’ and ‘Nothing But the Truth’.
‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’ introduces us to Sonja played by Rhona Mitra (‘Doomsday’). She is joined by Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy who return as Lucian and Viktor respectively. It will hit US theatres on January 23rd 2009.
