‘Funny Games’ and ‘Boardwalk Empire’ star Michael Pitt (below) is the latest to join the cast of the second season of NBC’s ‘Hannibal’. Pitt will play the role of Mason Verger, a patient who was eventually left horribly disfigured after a therapy session with Dr Lecter. The role was originally played by Gary Oldman (‘The Dark Knight Rises’) in 2001 horror sequel ‘Hannibal’ who was unrecognisable under his disturbing make-up. Actress Katharine Isabelle (‘American Mary’) recently joined the cast to play Mason’s sister Margot. Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen (‘Casino Royale’), Laurence Fishburne (‘The Matrix’), Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams, Hettienne Park, Caroline Dhavernas, Eddie Izzard (‘The Munsters’) and Gillian Anderson (‘The X-Files’) all star in the upcoming season premiering later this month.

“Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership, and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…”

‘Hannibal’ returns to screens on NBC, Friday 28 Februrary at 10:00pm ET/PT.
