When most classic horror titles out there get wrapped up with the 3 R’s… remake, reboot, redo…there’s usually a good amount of outrage, hatred and utter contempt long before the project is even rolling. The bleeding out of more material from an already well established genre franchise is often considered sacrilege by many. Sometimes it works but more often than not it unsurprisingly misses the target by some distance. The remake is part of horror as we know it and we just have to accept that. However, that said, news of a potential reboot of Steven Spielberg’s classic out at sea horror yarn ‘Jaws’ might tip me over the edge!
Whilst rumours of a potential remake have been spattered around the web for a hell of a long time a new casting call featured over at casting site Mandy has raised a few eyebrows. According to the site there is a hunt on for “All Positions for Jaws Reboot.” The site continues: “We are seeking all crew positions for the upcoming Jaws reboot. We will need to build sets quite early; therefore, we will be hiring partially prior to the official pre-production. Please submit all job queries via flickfolks.com in the US Film Crew Section.”
There’s no official news of this and it wouldn’t be the first time that a casting call on a site has been misrepresenative but a potential ‘Jaws’ reboot sends shivers down my spine. Time will tell as to whether Universal really are pushing forward with this and have simply been keeping it under wraps for the time being. However, as ever, take it with a pinch of salt.
Spielberg’s classic creature feature hit theatres back in June 1975 so could a potential 40 year anniversary revisit be a neat marketing move for the studio?
