FX have revealed that their upcoming outbreak horror series ‘The Strain’ will premiere on Sunday 13 July on the network. Based on the novels by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (‘Pacific Rim’) and Chuck Hogan the show has been developed into the new series which is set to run for 13 episodes. Guillermo will direct the pilot which revolves around the outbreak of a mysterious virus which has all the traits of an ancient strain of vampirism. The show stars Corey Stoll (‘House of Cards’), Sean Astin (‘Cabin Fever 3’), Kevin Durand (‘Lost’), Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde (‘The Mummy’), Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland, Miguel Gomez and Mia Maestro.
“The series tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.”
