Spoof master(?) Marlon Wayans is currently penning a script for horror spoof sequel ‘A Haunted House 2’. The next installment follows the successful run of ‘A Haunted House’ which opened in the US in January and managed to rake in over $40 million to date. Not bad for a project budgeted at $2 million. Wayans will return to both co-pen as well as once again star. Essence Atkins, Cedric the Entertainer, David Koechner, Nick Swardson, Dave Sheridan, Liana Mendoza and Jamie Noel all starred in ‘A Haunted House’ but no word yet on whom of the line-up may return for the follow-up. Open Road Films have already acquired distribution rights for the sequel as they did the first time around and production will kick off this Summer.
‘A Haunted House’ still hasn’t gained a UK theatrical release and what with a similarly themed ‘Scary Movie 5’ just hitting cinemas here we’re not sure it ever will. Perhaps one just for home release later in the year.
“Marlon Wayans is one of the funniest and hardest working talents in the movie business,” stated Open Road’s Tom Ortenberg. “Working with Marlon, producer Rick Alvarez and IM Global on A HAUNTED HOUSE was a fantastic experience and we are thrilled to re-assemble the team for another hilarious movie.”
