Following the release of a rather dull and vague looking poster for next year’s ‘Season of the Witch’ earlier this week it appears that new distributors Rogue are taking a new approach. And personally I don’t particularly like it. The whole thing now seems to have moved away from dark and interesting medieval tale to full-blown ‘Lord of the Ring’s style fantasy. And this new image certainly isn’t shot-down in any way in the new trailer just revealed over at Apple. Nicolas Cage (‘Drive Angry 3D’), Ron Perlman (‘Hellboy’), Stephen Graham (‘Snatch’, ‘Doghouse’), Christopher Lee, Robert Sheehan (‘Misfits’), Ulrich Thomsen and Stephen Campbell Moore all star, along with the witch played by Brit actress Claire Foy (below). Just how many more flicks does Cage want to do that involves ‘hell’ in some form or another!?

“A 14th century Crusader returns to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence. A priest, a grieving knight, a disgraced itinerant and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl. When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardises the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.”
‘Season of the Witch’ will arrive across the US on 7 January 2011 and the following week here in the UK.
