WWE Studios have snared the multifaceted Zach Lipovsky (‘On the Lot’) to helm their new horror reboot of ‘Leprechaun’. The original version from back in 1993 spawned 5 sequels and starred ‘Lifes Too Short’ actor Warwick Davis as the little green bastard and saw a young Jennifer Aniston make her first proper feature debut. Lipovsky will helm from a script penned by Harris Wilkinson which is said to have no connections to the mythology of the franchise but will be darker and a more traditional horror. WWE wrestler Dylan Postl, better known as Hornswoggle, is set to play the creepy ‘Leprechaun’.
Here’s the synopsis for Mark Jones’ 1993 original version:
“When Dan O’Grady returns to the U.S. after stealing some Irish leprechaun’s pot of gold, he thinks he can settle down and enjoy his newfound wealth. He thought wrong. The leprechaun followed him and O’Grady barely gets away with his life, having locked the little monster in his basement. Ten years later, J.D. and his spoiled daughter Tory move in. By accident, the leprechaun is released and almost immediately the annoying creature starts to look for his gold, not displaying any respect for human life.”
