Gary Ross’ ‘The Hunger Games’ won’t be hitting theatres until next March but the wheels are already in motion for the sequel ‘Catching Fire’. The Lionsgate follow-up which will be based on the follow-on novel by author Suzanne Collins reportedly have their eye on an award-winning scribe. ‘127 Hours’ and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ writer Simon Beaufoy is being tapped by the studio to pen the script, based on the original material, according to those fine Deadline folks. ‘Catching Fire’ will once again be helmed by director Ross who was originally slated to develop a script along with Suzanne Collins on part two of the trilogy, however, time constraints nixed this. ‘The Hunger Games’ is currently in post and stars Jennifer Lawrence -below (‘X-Men: First Class’), Josh Hutcherson (‘The Vampire’s Assistant’), Liam Hemsworth (‘Triangle’), Elizabeth Banks (‘Slither’), Willow Shields, Stanley Tucci (‘The Lovely Bones’), Woody Harrelson (‘Zombieland’), Toby Jones (‘The Mist’, ‘St Trinian’s) and Wes Bentley (‘P2’).
‘The Hunger Games’ arrives on 23 March 2012.
