Writer/director David Twohy has been chatting about a rumoured ‘Untitled Chronicles of Riddick Sequel’. Whilst on the road promoting his latest horror-thriller ‘A Perfect Getaway’, starring Steve Zahn (‘Joy Ride’), Timothy Olyphant (‘Scream 2’), Milla Jovovich (‘Resident Evil’) and Kiele Sanchez (‘Lost’), Twohy talks of ratings and money issues that have arose during the early talks.
Twohy spoke to Ed Douglas over at Shock Til You Drop about the early discussions revolving around a potential third installment in the ‘Riddick’ franchise. It seems talks are held up somewhat due to the fact that the studio would like to get it out as a PG-13 whilst both Twohy and Riddick himself Vin Diesel want to ‘go the opposite direction’. It seems money is also a talking point.
“I’ve sketched out two ideas for the next installment,” he told STYD. “Vin and I have decided on one approach of those two, and there’s some interest at the studio level but it would be as a PG-13 film, and we don’t want to do that anymore. That’s one of the concessions we thought we made with ‘Riddick’ that we shouldn’t have made. We also spent too much money and we were too ambitions, so yes, if we do go back to a third one, it will be focused again, hopefully again the same way that ‘Pitch Black’ was, and we’ll spend less money doing it. We’re just trying to figure out how much less we can do it for, because I don’t think Vin is going to work for scale again.”
‘A Perfect Getaway’ arrives in US theatres this Friday (7 August) and the following week here in the UK.
