French filmmaker Xavier Gens’ (‘Frontière(s)’) new post-apocalyptic thriller ‘The Divide’ is set to hit US theatres on 13 January 2012. This isn’t fresh news but just exactly what version of the film that’ll be entering theatres most definitely is. Anchor Bay have announced that Gens’ full, unrated directors cut will be the edition that’ll arrive in theatres early next year which is very encouraging. The footage omitted from various festival screenings over the Summer has been described by many as extreme. The movie itself set inside a high-rise apartment in New York city deals with 9 strangers thrown together in this post-apocalyptic nightmare and having to deal with ever-growing tensions and trying to come to terms with what horrors are occurring outside. Lauren German -below (‘Hostel: Part II’), Milo Ventimiglia (‘Heroes’), Michael Biehn (‘Aliens’), Michael Eklund, Rosanna Arquette, Courtney B. Vance, Iván González, Ashton Holmes, Jennifer Blanc, Peter Stormare (‘Fargo’) and Abbey Thickson all star. Gens is prepping work on his new sci-fi horror flick ‘Cold Skin’.
Also currently New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas and Denver will all be hit by ‘The Divide’ on 9 January 2012.
“Nine strangers…all tenants of a New York high-rise apartment…escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building’s bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psycho-sexual torment. As supplies dwindle, and tensions flare, they grow increasingly unhinged by their close quarters and hopelessness. Each act against one another becomes more depraved than the next. While everyone in the bunker allows themselves to be overcome by desperation and lose their humanity, one survivor holds onto a thin chance for escape, even with no promise of salvation on the outside.”
