Sigourney Weaver (‘Red Lights’) is the latest to hop aboard ‘Elysium’ director Neill Blomkamp’s latest sci-fi venture ‘Chappie’. Weaver (below) who has been popping up in genre offerings all over the place lately joins the cast of the South African production that already includes Hugh Jackman (‘Prisoners’), Dev Patel (‘Slumdog Millionaire’), Ninja and Yolandi Visser of rap-rave band Die Antwoord, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Brandon Auret and the voice of Sharlto Copley (‘District 9’). ‘Chappie’, which has just headed into production is scheduled to open on 27 March 2015.
“Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes.”
