BELIEVERS FIND NAKATA
Both the import version of Ringu and Gore Verbinski’s American remake have had their day in the sun, but what horror fans are eager to learn is, when will Hideo Nakata make his U.S. debut? A remake of the Japanese director’s film Dark Waters is currently in development at Bill Mechanic’s production house Pandemonium, as is Chaos for Universal. Only time will tell when we’ll see either of these pictures, and until then all we can do now is hear about new American projects Nakata is dancing around including True Believers.
According to Variety Bruce Willis and Arnold Rifkin’s Cheyenne Enterprises has made Nakata an offer to helm this swift-moving project at MGM. Plot details are being withheld at the time. True Believers would be Nakata’s first U.S. endeavor working from an original English language script. Cheyenne is looking to hire Mark Wahlberg (The Italian Job) as the lead.
Hideo, welcome to America.
More developments as they come our way. Nakata could easily reject the offer so stay tuned.
