KING KONG WOOS NAOMI WATTS
Naomi Watts, no stranger to the genre having appeared most recently in THE RING, but also having appeared in CHILDREN OF THE CORN IV: THE GATHERING and the elevator horror remake of THE LIFT entitled, DOWN aka THE SHAFT, is being courted by writer/director Peter Jackson to play the lead in his LORD OF THE RINGS follow-up, KING KONG according to Variety. Originally played by Fay Wray and later by a young Jessica Lange, Watts would play Ann Darrow, a young American actress who the giant ape falls in love with after meeting her on Skull Island. The movie, set for release by Universal at Christmas in 2005, is supposed to play a lot closer to the original Edgar Wallace novel in its adaptation by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens expanding the tale beyond the capture of Kong and into an exploration of the mysterious Skull Island in the vein of JURASSIC PARK.
