BODY MELT CREATOR ANNOUNCES NEXT
Fangos Australian correspondent Michael Helms reports that SOUND OF MILK will be the next project by filmmaker Philip Brophy, the director, co-writer and music composer of BODY MELT (pictured). As noted in Fango #227 by exploitation aficionado Quentin Tarantino, BODY MELT is one of the craziest horror films ever to emerge from Down Under (it sees U.S. VHS rerelease and a DVD debut from Vanguard November 25).
SOUND OF MILK is sci-fi, but its not, explains Brophy. Its probably got nothing to do with the genre since STAR WARS. Its kind of like taking all the sexual stuff in 50s sci-fi, only leaving the sex and not having any sci-fi left. The director still promises casualities and thrills for SOUND OF MILK. What its really about is a gender war. Its not a middle-class battle of the sexes, but a full-on species-against-species, out-to-get-the-other kind of thing.
Theres a good range of sexual violence in it, Brophy adds. I think I can get away with it because theres no hetrosexuality in the whole film. Heterosexuality doesnt exist in the future, so violence toward the opposite sex is actually an accepted way of life. Brophy hopes to begin shooting SOUND OF MILK on locations in Hong Kong and the Australian Outback before the next wet season.
