TWO TRAGIC LOSSES, BRANDIS & KAMEN

What a terrible week. The world loses two contributors to the horror genre that we all love so much, Jonathan Brandis (IT) and film composer Michael Kamen (Highlander, the Lethal Weapon series, the Die Hard trilogy, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and X-Men). Read on for the story, then lets give a few minutes of silence for them…

First John Ritter now Jonathan Brandis, Jasonlives would just like to express his sorrow to Jonathan Brandis family. He was a up and coming actor who fell victim to the (child actor Hollywood trend) he starred in one of the better TV Horror movies in the last ten years Stephen Kings IT. Its to bad that a week later and no one even knows. Bloody Disgusting found out by accident but the Horror Asylum team certainly express there condolences and we hope the news will spread now. The Lucky 7 is decreasing every day. There’s a couple of sources for the news, but its still unclear what exactly happened, here is one story, and you can read another by clicking here.

‘Actor Jonathan Brandis, 27, who starred in the movie ‘The Year That Trembled,’ which was filmed in Ohio, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment Wednesday. Brandis, 27, was found by friends and pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles coroner’s office. There were no signs of violence. An autopsy was due to be performed yesterday, an investigator said. ‘The Year That Trembled,’ produced by Tyler Davidson and Scott Lax, who were living in the Cleveland area at the time, was filmed in Ohio and premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival in 2002. Brandis played Casey Pedersen, a young man who is caught up in the turmoil of the Vietnam War. ‘It’s a terrific tragedy, and our hearts go out to the family,’ said Davidson, who now lives in Los Angeles.’

In addition, Creature-Corner writes that, ‘Innovative film composer Michael Kamen passed away Tuesday at the age of 55.’ Here’s a great list of the work he’s done thanks to Creature-Corner, ‘While best known for his work in action films (Highlander, the Lethal Weapon series, the Die Hard trilogy, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and X-Men), the Academy Award nominated composer also provided scores for two of Terry Gilliam’s best films (Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) and worked with Metallica on the popular S&M orchestral album back in ’99.

His forays into horror were rare but memorable. His first real ‘Hollywood’ score was for David Cronenberg’s screen adaptation of The Dead Zone. He also provided the unusual techno/orchestral hybrid score (with Orbital) for Paul Anderson’s Event Horizon. His long time affiliation with Joel Silver brought him into the Tales from the Crypt fold, where he provided scores for several episodes of the HBO series and acted as ‘executive music producer’ on both the theatrical features, Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood.’
