BOOKS OF BLOOD
One of the better unproduced horror scripts read in recent years was that for a film version of Clive Barker’s famed ‘Books of Blood’, now Creature Corner has a report from this weekend’s Creative Screenwriting Magazine Screenwriting Expo where Director Frank Darabont, best known in recent years for helming acclaimed adaptations of Stephen King novels, hinted that the Barker books may be filmed after all – as a TV series.
Darabont is in very early preliminary talks with Barker to do an anthology show which’ll focus more on the horror aspect than the erotic elements:
‘We really want to make the Books of Blood to be a story-driven, writer-driven piece of work. Theres so many great stories to tell in the genre and I thought, hell, if anybody knows this stories, its gotta be Clive Barker. The idea is we would choose the stories, whether it was Fritz Leiber, Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe, or something very cutting edge like David Schow – whatever story it is, as long as its got a real quality of writing of writing going for it. Cause I miss that, especially in anthologies. The ones weve had lately are kind of lackluster. They seem to oddly be avoiding the fact that there are thousands of great stories that have been written through the years’.
Darabont also hinted his script for ‘Mine’ has been finished and turned in, he’s currently still at work penning ‘Indiana Jones IV’ then moves on to working on a ‘Farenheit 451’ adaptation and finally after that will get around to Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’. Thanks to ‘Man in the West Passage’ & ‘Johnny Butane’.
