    ELI ROTH DISCUSSES PROJECTS

Eli Roth (Cabin Fever) is gearing up for his next feature, The Box, a psychological thriller loosely derived from an episode of CBS’ 1980s revival of The Twilight Zone. Inside you’ll find some news regarding this team up with the incredible Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) along with some extra word from Eli Roth directly, he says, ‘We are going to make the sickest, most twisted, disturbing film we can get away with.’ Read on for tons more!

Eli Roth Speaks Below!: Variety reports that ‘Garden State’ producers Camelot Pictures will finance and produce the horror pic The Box, which will be directed by Cabin Fever helmer Eli Roth and co-written by Donnie Darko genius Richard Kelly.

Roth and Richard Kelly (‘Donnie Darko’) adapted the screenplay from the Richard Matheson short story ‘Button, Button,’ which also served as the basis of a 1986 episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’ that aired on CBS.

‘The Box’ revolves around an unhappy married couple who receive a small wooden box on their doorstep. At the push of a button, the box brings its bearer instant wealth — and instantly kills someone the bearer doesn’t know.

Bloody Disgusting contacted Eli about the film, to express their excitment, and here’s what he had to say, ‘This film is going to be much more of a psychological straight down the middle horror film, very different in tone from ‘Cabin Fever.’ After watching Japanese horror films like ‘Ju-On: The Grudge’ and ‘Suicide Circle’ and anything by Takashi Miike, I am inspired to make a film that is equally as disturbing and scary, if not more so. The Asian films have raised the bar far above our heads, and it’s time to step it up or we will forever drown in mediocrity. Richard Kelly is the best writer I know, and someone who thinks completely outside the box, (no pun intended.) We are going to make the sickest, most twisted, disturbing film we can get away with. It’s going to be a lot of fun.’

Damn is Eli Roth a blessing from God or what? Not only did he prove he can make a refreshing flick, but he has some kick ass taste in movies…no?

In addition MovieHole had more Roth related news posted with regards to the possible Cabin Fever 2 sequel…

A couple of months back, ￿Cabin Fever￿ star Rider Strong told Moviehole he￿d be back for the sequel. Eli Roth talked to The Arrow and verified that, saying that if he does do a sequel ￿ and from the sounds of it he will ￿ then Rider will probably be back.

￿Contractually, when we sold the movie, I told them that I would write a treatment and I have the first right to do it, if I want. So I wrote and turned in the treatment. Now, Lions Gate Films just bought Artisan, so there￿s this whole change-over going on, all kinds of shit going on, so they basically have to read it and say if they want to do it or not. And it￿s really f*ckin￿ weird. I feel like if people want to see Cabin Fever 2, they￿re going because they want the weirdness. I￿d want it to be all about Deputy Winston and the various creatures that are in his head. I￿d love to bring Ryder Strong back as well. Ryder￿s so f*ckin￿ cool. He￿s a cool, easy-going dude. They just have to trust me that it would work. It￿s really f*cked up, but I also have a great way to tie everything up and bring people back and make it f*cked up, but not cheesy. But it￿s a long way away. I don￿t want to make Cabin Fever 2 my next film.￿

I￿ve been living the first one forever. I wrote it when I was about 22 or 23, and I￿d write a different kind of movie now. Here￿s the thing; they￿ll probably want to make it soon, but I want to wait. I think that Raimi went away from Evil Dead then came back with Evil Dead 2. I want to let it sink in, think about it for a while, see what people respond to, see what catches on. There are certain phrases for certain movies that have leaked into popular culture. You can￿t predict it. Certain things from Office Space, for example, everybody loves the ￿Yeaaaaaah￿ or Caddyshack with ￿I want a hamburger￿you￿ll get nothing and like it!!￿ I don￿t think that they thought that would be the marquee line. So you kind of want to see what sticks and then build on that.￿
