HEAD GAMES BEGIN IN CANADA
Calder Road Films has begun production on HEAD GAMES, a psychological horror film that marks the feature directorial debut of award-winning short filmmaker Paul Fox. Written by Wil Zmak and produced by Brent Barclay, the movie is about a family terrorized by a sexual offender who believes that the wife, a psychiatrist, conducted unethical experiments on them when she was his doctor. With the help of a young prot, the madman traps the family in their winter cottage and forces them to take part in a series of brutal, torturous games. The cast includes Kate (WEBS) Greenhouse, Gordon (THE WOODS) Currie and Iris Graham as the tormented brood, Aidan (COLD CREEK MANOR) Devine as their attacker and Dov (JASON X, BLOOD MOON) Tiefenbach as his sidekick.
Director Fox comments, At its inception, the intent behind HEAD GAMES was to make a horror movie for adults. The writer, Wil Zmak, and I spent an evening in a Calgary bar, drinking whiskey, talking movies and lamenting the lack of horror flicks like the ones we grew up onsmart, stylish thrillers with real characters, real ideas and real chills. These were scary stories told straightnot irony-fests full of screaming teenagers. Movies like Polanskis REPULSION, ROSEMARYS BABY and THE TENANT, Nicolas Roegs DONT LOOK NOW, Jack Claytons THE INNOCENTS, Hitchcocks PSYCHO and THE BIRDS and Kubricks THE SHINING. This absence was a cinematic wrong that needed to be righted, and we were just drunk enough to think ourselves the guys to do it. And so HEAD GAMES was born.
The movie is currently lensing in the Toronto area and is backed by the Canadian Feature Film Project, which was also involved with CUBE, BLOOD & DONUTS and numerous other movies.
