TSALAMANDRIS DIRECTS HOOD
Archer Productions’ Executive Producer Vikki Tsalamandris announced plans for her motion picture debut today, a slick little horror film called ‘Hood’.
Set-up at 35Central, the horror pic looks set to go in production in Australia shortly.
Tsalamandris says, I picked up the phone in early 2003 with the idea of producing a small business program. Within weeks I was on the air. By the end of the year I had packaged a twelve-part series. I didnt see anything stopping me and decided to tackle my first love; film.
Tsalamandris was introduced to 35Central Managing Director Francisco Antonio Seguin when she was looking for someone who shared the same vision. Comments Tsalamandris, He walked into my house with a tonne of binders for a series of projects; scripts, production designs, marketing campaigns, merchandise. You name it, hed thought of it! Hed built up a network of volunteer artists intent on helping him build his vision. Hed also managed to meet the right people and make the right connections here and with some very prominent executives in New Zealand. The only thing holding him back was money, so I stepped in. With the proviso that he could secure a face-to-face pitch of his biggest project, Revelations, I said, Lets take the shot. He called me 12 hours later to confirm the meeting was on! In the end we met with a slew of people, and we were even invited to attend the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King premiere. It was the most fantastic introduction into the film industry I could ask for. Francisco had pulled off more than I could have imagined. When he pitched me the HOOD project there was nothing I believed this man couldnt do.
Says Tsalamandris, Francisco, Kyri and Dallas had been developing projects on the side for years while working their respective jobs needed to pay the bills. Considering what theyd achieved under such restrictions, full-time financing was a priority. Development finance through the film funding boards has tough prerequisites. Private financing was the only way to go because in the business community the only prerequisite is that there is a customer demand and you can prove you can get the job done. From what Francisco has shown me so far, I can hardly contain my excitement.
The response has been overwhelming. This is it. I cant turn this off now. And even if I tried, there are a lot of people out there who wouldnt let me. I opened the door to an industry predominantly controlled by an established group, and discovered a labyrinth of disorganised business practice which I am now taking advantage of. Those that know me know I can do a lot in this industry.
We look forward to it.
