Sick In The Head Moving Ahead

SICK IN THE HEAD MOVING AHEAD

Fangoria Films will be teaming with the new horror-centric company BloodWorks to bring Frank (BRAIN DAMAGE) Henenlotter￿s SICK IN THE HEAD to the screen. BloodWorks, co-founded by 2001 MANIACS producer Chris Tuffin and former NFL star Glenn Cadrez, will co-finance, produce and distribute SICK IN THE HEAD with the Sony-based company Seven Arts.

‘The time couldn￿t be better for FANGORIA to be back in the filmmaking business,’ says SICK producer Steven Mackler, who shepherded a number of genre films in the ￿80s, including the cult favorite THE REJUVENATOR, and presides over Fango￿s three video labels. ‘Horror is hotter than ever. Best of all, audiences are going for fright fare off the beaten path, like the Japanese-themed THE GRUDGE and the grisly SAW. We waited a while for the right partner to come along and make SICK IN THE HEAD because it is such a strange film, with a David Lynch quality to it. We found that kind of gutsy partner in BloodWorks.’

SICK IN THE HEAD, will be directed by Henenlotter, a genre fave for his BASKET CASE trilogy and FRANKENHOOKER, who wrote SICK with R.A. Thornburn. The hallucinogenic story concerns a young man trying to escape the horrifying legacy of his parents, who remain incarcerated for a series of bizarre serial killings.

‘SICK IN THE HEAD will be the first in a slate of branded FANGORIA feature films that we are developing,’ says FANGORIA editor Tony Timpone, who initiated the SICK project and will serve as the movie￿s executive producer. ‘We always envisioned a line of Fango movies, not unlike what National Lampoon pioneered with their comedy films. Now that every major and minor studio has a genre division because of the great demand for product, Fango is in a great position to jump in and produce scary, quirky and innovative horror flicks.’

In 1990, Fango publisher Norman Jacobs executive-produced three horror films for Columbia TriStar Home Video: MINDWARP, CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT and SEVERED TIES. Jacobs will serve as one of SICK IN THE HEAD￿s executive producers as well.

BloodWorks also has gore pioneer H.G. Lewis￿ WIN, LOSE OR DIE in the pipeline, which will roll before SICK IN THE HEAD. Seven Arts was involved with financing and/or repping such films as RULES OF ENGAGEMENT, STANDER, THE BELIEVER and DUETS. In regards to the BloodWorks/Seven Arts deal, producer Tuffin said in a statement: ‘This is a great situation for both companies, wherein Seven Arts will receive content for its worldwide output deals, while BloodWorks will strengthen its sales and co-financing mechanism.’

Production on SICK IN THE HEAD will begin in March 2005. Casting discussions have already begun.
