HORROR MOVIE NOVELISATIONS
New Line has officially signed a deal which will be bringing novelizations of Freddy vs. Jason, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and more New Line flicks to your hands for your reading pleasures this year…..
The Alien Online reports, ‘Games Workshop’s Black Library publishing imprint, the division of the company responsible for the highly successful range of Warhammer and Warhammer 40K novels and comics, has announced the formation of a major new media publishing outfit – Black Flame.’
‘The three-way deal between GW and media partners New Line Cinema (Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Rebellion (owners of the UK’s best-selling scifi comic, 2000AD) will bring a wider range of media tie-in novels to the bookstores.’
‘In addition to the Warhammer ranges, Black Flame will have automatic publishing rights for the novelisations of any future New Line sf, fantasy or horror titles, including any future releases in the , Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Blade franchises.’
‘The connection with Rebellion grants the publication rights to any print media tie-ins to the proposed range of computer games based on 2000AD’s best-known characters that Rebellion is currently developing.’
‘The net result is that Black Flame’s first batch of titles will be a novelization of the Dredd V Death computer game to be published later this year by Vivendi, plus novelizations of Freddy vs. Jason and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, based on the Michael Bay produced remake of the horror classic, both of which will be released concurrently with New Line Cinema’s theatrical releases later this year.’
‘Black Flame’s CEO Andy Jones said: ‘In the few years the Black Library has been in existence, it has shown that it can produce quality books in a profitable way for the company. The formation of BL Publishing and the expansion into new categories and imprints is in recognition of that success, and is Games Workshop’s sign that it is behind the publishing programme and is committed to its growth.’
‘Crucially, Black Flame has yet to reveal which authors they have signed to tackle these projects – the quality of the writing usually being the difference between a dismallly poor franchise rip-off and a memorable tie-in classic. But in the past, Black Libtrary have been able to attract such names as Ian Watson, Kim Newman, Brian Stableford, William King and Dan Abnett, so perhaps all hope is not yet lost.’
