Though it’s questionable just how much in the realm of horror this might be, it just has too much good stuff going for it for us to ignore.
The trades are reporting that Adam Friedman, under his Traveling Light production banner, has picked up the rights to Joe R. Lansdale’s coming-of-age tale A Fine Dark Line. Lansdale has been tapped to write the film version, as well, and Friedman will direct.
A Fine Dark Line is set in 1958, telling of young Stanley Mitchell, who finds a half-buried chest full of love letters between two unnamed lovers. He becomes obsessed with finding out who wrote them, and along he way reveals just a few too many skeletons some would like kept in the closet. Apparently there is a ghost story in there somewhere, but the books’ driving force is the loss of innocence in one of the most delicately balanced periods of American history.
No word on when things will get moving, but with Lansdale adapting his own work, this will be one to keep an eye on.
