Moving from flesheating zombies to bloodthirsty maniacs, THE STINK OF FLESH writer/director Scott Phillips’ (read our interview here) latest indie opus, GIMME SKELTER, concerns a small, sleepy burg invaded by a band of mass murderers. The film, which Phillips is currently writing and will begin shooting in Albuquerque, New Mexico this November, will feature Gunnar (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) Hansen as a good guy and Troma vet Trent (SUBURBAN NIGHTMARE) Haaga as one of the vile villains.
“GIMME SKELTER is best described as being sort of like I DRINK YOUR BLOOD meets MAGNOLIA,” Phillips tells Fango. “It’s about a tiny town in New Mexico that is besieged by a group of psycho killers. Gunnar will play Porter Sandford, the patriarch of the town, and his niece is portrayed by Kristin Hansen, who played Sassy in THE STINK OF FLESH.”
STINK OF FLESH director of photography Richard Griffin, who helmed the Haaga-scripted E.I. Independent Cinema release FEEDING THE MASSES, will handle GIMME SKELTER’s cinematography. According to Phillips, several other members of the STINK cast and crew will return, and some new faces will be on board as well. “GIMME SKELTER will share a lot of the twisted sensibilities of STINK OF FLESH, and I can pretty much guarantee that this flick will deliver some hardcore slasher groceries, or I’ll let horror fans the world over line up to punch me in the throat,” he says.
While the last bits of funding come together on GIMME SKELTER, Phillips will be appearing at Burbank’s Dark Delicacies horror store (4213 West Burbank Boulevard) this Saturday, August 20 at 2 p.m., signing both STINK (available from Tempe Video) and his FRIDAY THE 13TH: CHURCH OF THE DIVINE PSYCHOPATH tie-in novel from Black Flame. “My Jason book was released about a week ago, and so far seems to be getting a good reception from FRIDAY fans,” he says. STINK producer Shannon Hale and stars Billy Garberina and Devin O’Leary will be joining Phillips at Dark Delicacies. Watch for more info on GIMME SKELTER on this site soon.
