Having already signed SLEEPAWAY CAMP’s Felissa Rose and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD’s Judith O’Dea to star in his next feature THE OCEAN, director Dante Tomaselli has just landed another genre veteran, Adrienne Barbeau, for his cast, and is looking into reuniting the actress with a co-star from an ’80s horror hit. “About a week ago, I sent the OCEAN screenplay, which was written by [Fango’s] Michael Gingold and myself, to Adrienne’s agent,” Tomaselli tells us. “Shortly after, I got an e-mail saying that Adrienne liked the script and that she would be calling me. Then, seconds later, the phone rang, and it was her! That voice. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help hearing Stevie Wayne from THE FOG. What a time/space dislocation!
“We set up a meeting at my home, and I had to pinch myself because Adrienne Barbeau was in my house in New Jersey to discuss the idea of starring in THE OCEAN, my new movie,” he continues. “Could this be happening? I thought back to 1980, when I was a 10-year-old boy watching THE FOG in a theater. Fast-forward to the future, and here she was. I must say, we had an excellent meeting. She was so nice and down-to-earth and looked completely gorgeous. I was happy to hear that Cody, her son with John Carpenter, wants to contribute music to THE OCEAN. He’s a musician. I said, ‘Sure, and he can cameo of course!’ Adrienne even brought up the possibility of [THE FOG’s] Tom Atkins playing a role in the film. I never thought of that! Wow! Yes! We went over specific parts of the screenplay, and she had plenty of notes. She had lots of things to say about her role, many ideas. That’s when I knew for sure she was serious.” We’ll keep you posted about further OCEANic developments.
