Columbia Pictures has its sights set on a remake of a 1963 Roger Corman classic. As a matter of fact, this redux has been rumored for years now, with Tim Burton in talks to direct. We don’t know if he’s still got this one on his to-do list, but Fango has learned through a variety of sources that Columbia is seeking a scribe for an update of X: THE MAN WITH X-RAY EYES. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman (both of THE SHAGGY DOG) will produce with Albert Page.
In the original, Ray Milland played the titular X (Dr. Xavier, to be more specific), a scientist who goes to desperate extremes and tests an eye serum on himself that gives him the power of x-ray vision. It’s a fascinating advantage at first, as Xavier is able to see through walls, clothes and other items, but things get freaky when he begins seeing things far more terrifying. Don Rickles co-starred in this Robert Dillon-scripted film. It’s still too early to know if the X redux will ever reach the screen and if so, when, but keep it here for any further updates!
