According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sean Bean has been cast in Rogue Pictures and Platinum Dunes’ remake of THE HITCHER, playing the titular villain originally essayed by Rutger Hauer. Bean, last seen in a heroic role in SILENT HILL, will terrorize a young couple on a cross-country trip played by Sophia (STAY ALIVE) Bush and an actor yet to be cast; Dave Meyers directs the film, which starts filming this month in Austin, TX and Santa Fe, NM. Originally penned by Jake Wade (WHEN A STRANGER CALLS) Wall, the script was recently rewritten by Eric (VIRTUOSITY) Bernt, who also did uncredited work on Platinum Dunes’ TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE update.
Meanwhile, Dread Central reports that the cast of Fox’s direct-to-DVD WRONG TURN 2 has filled out. Joining previously announced Henry Rollins are young genre veterans Erica Leerhsen (BLAIR WITCH 2, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) and Crystal Lowe (SNAKES ON A PLANE, FINAL DESTINATION 3, BLACK CHRISTMAS), Lowe’s DESTINATION co-star Texas Battle, Aleksa (THE RING TWO) Palladino, Matthew Currie Holmes and Ken Kirzinger, who stepped into Jason’s big shoes for FREDDY VS. JASON. Production began this week on the sequel, directed by Joe Lynch from a script by Turi Meyer and Al Septien, in which the parents of the inbreds from the previous movie slaughter contestants in a SURVIVOR-style reality show.
