Box Office Mojo just revealed that a pair of 2008’s most significant fright films have been assigned release dates. DIARY OF THE DEAD, George A. Romero’s (by all accounts) triumphant return to zombie territory, will open February 15 from the Weinstein Company; as of now, that puts it up against the debut of Warner Independent’s FUNNY GAMES.
And Screen Gems will open QUARANTINE, the remake of the new Spanish sensation REC, on October 17—the same day Lionsgate has slotted another redux, Darren Lynn Bousman’s SCANNERS. That pair will have only a week or two to battle it out before the Gate (presumably) unleashes SAW V on either Oct. 24 or 31.
