With director Marcus (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) Nispel just signed to helm the new FRIDAY THE 13TH from Mark Swift and Damian Shannon’s script, New Line has picked a release date for the redux, and it is—natch—Friday, February 13, 2009. For the record, that makes it the fifth entry in the long-running film series to open on its namesake day, following PART III (August 13, 1982), THE FINAL CHAPTER (April 13, 1984), PART VII (May 13, 1988) and JASON GOES TO HELL (August 13, 1993).
The new FRIDAY will both delve into Jason Voorhees’ origins and present him wearing the hockey mask he didn’t acquire until the third of the previous movie series; C.H.U.D.com got an early peek at the screenplay, so click on that link to get some details (and spoilers).
The site also reports that the new movie, produced by the Platinum Dunes team of Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and Michael Bay, will roll next February.
