I Sell the Dead in Production

It’s been five months since Glenn McQuaid’s 18th-century period horror film, I Sell the Dead, has been in front of cameras, but over the weekend Dread Central learned that finally all is back in place to continue making the what promises to be the most interesting of Larry Fessenden’s Scareflix film lineup to date.

So what took so long for the film to finally finish up? Seems co-star Ron Perlman had another film he was committed to making over in Budapest, something about a guy from hell, but now he’s back and ready to immerse himself into a very different sort of role.

A bit of catch up; the story of I Sell the Dead follows two graverobbers, played by Larry Fessenden and Dominic Monaghan, on their way to the gallows, and the madcap confession they give to a priest (Perlman) before they finally meet the hangman’s noose. McQuaid and producer Larry Fessenden recently provided Dread Central with the first look at the teaser poster for the film as well as a detailed update about the production.

“I am so ready to get back to the set after editing these last months,” McQuaid told us, “We have waited for Ron to free up and I can’t wait to get Ron and Dom in the same room together. Their scenes are very intense, intimate, scary and funny. It’s going to define the whole film. I’ve also got a big set piece to do with Dom and Larry, so we’ll be taking what we’ve learned from the last shoot and ramping things up a bit.”

To date each Scareflix, which started with The Off Season and The Roost with I Sell the Dead being the sixth and most expensive to date, has been very different from the last, but this one sounds like it’s going to defy anyone to classify it too neatly. “The idea is that each Scareflick is wholly different from all of the others,” Fessenden added, “and Glenn’s sensibility is unlike anything we’ve done, in fact anything we’ve seen in theaters of late. It will feel familiar and fresh at the same time.”

McQuaid explains just why I Sell the Dead is going to be so unique; “[The film] is influenced by Hammer Horror and the portmanteau horror films of Amicus but I think I’ve got a bit of James Joyce in there and no small amount of Abbott and Costello as well,” he explains, “Dom has really gotten the tone, and I know Ron will too, he can be playful and imposing all at once. Can’t wait to get started.”

Production is set to wrap before Christmas and then the editing will continue, so keep it here for more info!
